Practical Magic, Favorite Selves, and Daily Bingo: What Psychic and Coach Ashley B. Jones Taught Me About Trusting Yourself
Dear Creator,
What happens when a neuroscience grad becomes a psychic, then a coach, then a writer in New York City? I sat down with Ashley B. Jones to talk about intuition, identity, and the unglamorous daily habits that keep creatives sane.
Ashley B. Jones is a psychic, writer, teacher, and artist. She teaches practical magic, helping neurodivergent creatives and value-aligned entrepreneurs make the right decisions and take the right action to fall madly in love with themselves, meet their soulmates (lovers, besties, creative co-conspirators, and clients), so they can bring their too-good-to-be-true dreams to life.
Ashley's known for her viral group program, Magnetic Habits Bingo, and soulmate match-making in her Meet Your Future Lover psychic readings.
Key Highlights
Summer Is Kinda Chaotic, And That’s Normal
We started with summer energy. Ashley’s take is that we treat summer as a season of freedom, but energetically it’s intense like everything is dissolving and reforming, a bit like the chrysalis stage before the butterfly. If everyone you know feels like they’re “going through it,” that may be why.
A Case For Intuition
Ashley studied neuroscience in college, and she told me about a class exercise on neuroplasticity where students were blindfolded and ried to echolocate, after reading about how people who lose their sight can learn to “see” through sound. She shared her view that intuition and psychic ability work like a skill (anyone can bounce a basketball, but not everyone becomes Michael Jordan). She also described her hypothesis that many highly psychic people developed those abilities while needing to read their environment closely, often through trauma or caregiving.
Her working definitions:
Intuition is information about the present moment, or about yourself.
Psychic information is about other people, the past, or the future, things you’d have no business knowing.
From Working in an Office to Building Her Own Business
Ashley was candid about the in-between years. After college she took a job that was sold as market research but was really like sales and/or recruiting. A noisy open office and constant panic attacks pushed her to quit. A month later the pandemic hit. She started pulling tarot cards for friends at $20 a reading, then decided to start her own thing. Six years later, she’s still choosing it every day.
Californian Ashley, Denver Ashley, Kansas Ashley, and New York Ashley
We had fun with how place shapes who we are. California Ashley is glowy and emotional. Denver Ashley is crunchy granola, hosting sound baths and building her business. Kansas Ashley is basically Dorothy. New York Ashley (since February 2026) is out in the art museums with main-character energy, and stepping into the identity of a writer and author.
Labels Are For Soup Cans (But We Still Need Them)
One of my favorite parts of the conversation was about identity. Ashley admitted that calling herself an “entrepreneur” has started to feel performative, even though it once felt liberating. Her test for any label: Does this make me feel like my favorite version of myself? She explained that when something is right, she feels it in her body as a flirty, tingly tug. When it’s restrictive, she’s usually trying to be palatable or safe.
Practical Magic: Make Your Body A Pendulum
Ashley calls herself a psychic and a teacher of practical magic, which means bringing spirituality into everyday decisions. Here’s her technique:
Each morning, ask your body to show you what “neutral” feels like.
Ask it to show you “yes” (she leans forward).
Ask it to show you “no” (she leans back).
Journal what each one feels like.
Use it through the day for everything from rescheduling a workshop to deciding whether to text an ex.
She says it breaks the overthinking spiral and builds self-trust, which builds confidence.
Meet Your Favorite Self
Ashley’s framework involves five parts of you: your younger self (inner child and teenager), higher self, shadow self, future self, and inner self (the present you who regulates your nervous system). Her point is that most people fixate on one. Your favorite self is who you become when all five work together and you reject none of them.
Bingo: The Habit Tracker Built For ADHD Brains
Ashley plays a daily habit bingo card, and was on day 479 when we recorded. Her three goals are simple: keep playing, get a bingo, then get as many squares as you can. Her habits include vitamins, getting dressed like her favorite self, three meals, water, stretching, moving her body, a one-song dance party, singing, gratitude journaling, and reading. She suggests newcomers start with a 3x3 grid and swap habits out whenever one stops feeling good.
Metamorphosis
Ashley described Metamorphosis as “phase two” of bingo. It’s a 12-week program where you spend two weeks with each of the five parts of yourself through guided meditation, spirit guide work, and what she calls self alchemy. She shared that participants have changed jobs, moved, gotten engaged, and ended relationships that no longer served them.
